  • Sitting on the observation catamaran I look abeam over the shoulder of a woman with deep red hair and a dark black sweater who is on the left one-third of the image. The right side of her face turns toward the center of the image as she watches a sailboat race. We see the edge of her red framed sunglasses and white temple arm extending back and wrapping over her right ear. Her red hair blows away from me, onto her face. The center and right one-third of the image includes four Hobie 16 sailboats with white and orange sails, racing in the Hobie 16 World race off of Captiva Island, Florida, under a white cloud and bright blue sky. The sailboats and sky are heavily blurred because the image focuses on the woman.

  • Off the forward bow of our observation boat, a Hobie 16 catamaran under full sail hikes up out of the water in front of us. Leaning heavily to port, its forward starboard pontoon flies 4-5 feet in the air out of the blue Gulf of Mexico. Only the forward part of the white port-side pontoon is visible—the aft is buried deep in the water as the Hobie jets past us at 15-20 knots. The cat’s black mast leans 45-degrees to port, jib and mainsail stretched tight in the wind. The sailor closest to me in blue hikes out over the starboard side of the pontoon. His companion in yellow leans further out to starboard, tethered with a safety harness that keeps him from flying off the boat.

  • Off the forward bow of our observation boat, a Hobie 16 catamaran under full sail passes us through the water off our bow. The forward sailor trims the orange and white mainsail and jib into a tight reach as the salt water from the Gulf of Mexico foams up and sprays behind the cat. The aft sailor grips the black tiller rod, focusing intently on the horizon. The Gulf of Mexico comprises the lower two-thirds of the frame—a deep blue backdrop to the Hobie 16 as it passes us in a “swoosh.”

  • We see a landscape shot of open sky where blue clouds, offset against a deep blue sky, cap off a small strip of dark blue water in the bottom eighth of the photo. On the horizon line, intersecting sky and water, we see eleven Hobie 16 catamarans, orange and white sails piercing the skyline, spread out across the image as they race each other into the wind.

  • Bright blue sky frames the upper 2/3s of this landscape image. In the lower 1/3 of the image we see blue-green water from the Gulf of Mexico to the left; and a sandy beach to the right. Wave action has dampened the sand at the bottom of the image and to the right further up the beach. 60 feet away 20 Hobie 16 catamaran sailboats are lined up down the beach ready to launch for a race. Every sailboat has the same bright orange mainsail with a white palm tree and darker orange sunset on top of a 3-foot white strip along the bottom of the sail. The masts diminish down to the horizon line. The damp sand between the camera and the sailboats reflects the blue sky and orange sails.

  • Looking northwest from brick-paved First Street in downtown Fort Myers, the faint light of an early dawn glows blue at the vanishing point on the horizon, brightening the dark sky overhead. Electric wall sconces illuminate the 2nd story of the building visible on the right side of the image, shining columns of light up towards the roof which highlights and accents the horizontal cornice along the roofline. Streetlamps and 30-foot palms line the street—the palm trees silhouetted by dawn sky. The street is empty and quiet except for metal sidewalk street art of a man balancing on a unicycle on the right side of the image.

  • Looking southwest and down the street from the center of brick-paved First Street in downtown Fort Myers, both curbs diminish toward the vanishing point almost 1-mile distant. Streetlamps in front of 30-foot palm trees line the avenue and illuminate Capone’s Coal Fired Pizza and Cabos Cantina in the foreground. The street is completely empty as the black sky overhead slowly fades to dawn. At the end of the street, and in the center of the photograph, High Point Place, a 33-story high-rise condominium, faintly catches early rays of the rising sun.

  • Taken from a drone at night hovering at 30-feet over Ocean Boulevard in South Beach, Miami, the Colony Hotel and Boulevard Hotel fill most of this landscape image. Baby blue lights illuminate the Colony’s façade, and blue neon outlines the letters on the hotel’s inverted-T sign, with the word ‘Colony’ reaching vertically from the second story to the roof. Boulevard Hotel’s red neon vertical outline and red neon sign contrasts dramatically with the Colony’s softer blue theme. Black sky and the dark street frame both hotels in the image.

  • This night shot of the Leslie Hotel on Ocean Drive in Miami’s South Beach was taken from a drone hovering 40-feet across the street. Twin gold-lit vertical art deco fan facades reach from the second floor to the top of the roof. A red awning is brightly illuminated from the street level underneath, where tables are crowded with alfresco diners. A dark night sky and dimly lit street frame the building and outdoor dining scene top and bottom.

  • A horizontal drone photo on Ocean Drive in Miami’s South Beach at night. Taken 30-feet in the air from the park across the street, the composition looks directly at the center of Havana 1957, an authentic Cuban restaurant. Columns of multicolored lights between the windows on the second and third levels spotlight the building's long, white façade with pillars of intense blue, red, purple, green, and yellow. Ten square umbrellas line Ocean Drive, underneath which a hundred or more patrons dine alfresco. A man with a white shirt and white panama had stands at the entrance to the restaurant looking inside.

  • A horizontal drone photo on Ocean Drive in Miami’s South Beach at night, taken 30-feet in the air from the park across the street. A dark, deep purplish-blue light cloaks the three-story Crescent Hotel on the left—accentuated with blue neon art deco accent lights: Seven blue neon circles in a row hover just below the flat roofline. Horizontal blue neon lights line the tops of the windows on the second and third levels. On the right third of the façade, a pair of blue neon lights rise vertically from the portico to the roof, curving 90-degrees left over the blue circles. The Hotel's name, "Crescent," blazes in red neon art deco letters centered over the first-floor portico. Adjacent and to the right, Mc Alpin's three-story façade glows in a shimmering, amplified ultraviolet green. The illuminated 'Mc Alpin' sign, centered over the portico, blazes in an intense lime green over the entrance. Both façades look like art deco cubes: the dark blue Crescent on the left; bright green Mc Alpin on the right.
