    Crimson Crosses

    During an early morning photo walkabout in Huatulco, Mexico, I found a red church in full sun, with a shadow of the cross in the front of the church in close juxtaposition to the cross shaped window.  For Christian cross lovers (as opposed to Christopher Cross lovers).  Image taken while cruising Mexico in our sailboat 2000.

  • A brightly lit vertical photo, taken from the bottom of a stairway with 12 steps, looks up to the top of the stairs. At the top we see bright light coming in from an invisible window off to the left of the landing. Bright yellow light illuminates the landing at the top of the stairs, which refracts down onto orange-colored walls and orange carpeted stairs below. On the wall at the top of the stairs we see abstract artwork of sailboat sails within a vertical white frame around it. Inside the white frame is a lavender rectangular border. Inside the lavender border is a black rectangular border. Inside the black border is a yellow rectangular border. Inside the yellow rectangular border, we see a gradient background—from solid yellow at the top to a solid red ocean with whitecaps at the bottom. The yellow-red background provides a backdrop to the orange sails bending in the wind. A brown varnished wooden banister, reflecting deep orange tones from the adjacent walls, reaches from the lower left bottom of the image to the top left, just in front of the landing.

    Stairway to Heaven

    This was actually the stairway to the locker rooms at the Acapulco Yacht Club.  But 'Stairway to Heaven' sounds a bit more evocative.  Every morning, light flooded the top of the stairs, amplifying the orange walls and carpet.  Love those Mexican colors.  Image made while cruising Mexico in our sailboat 2000.
